William Francis Sturcken

William F. Sturcken Charleston- Entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 11, 2010, Mr. William Francis Sturcken, husband of Claudia Mae Sweatman Sturcken. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Sturcken are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends this Tuesday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home 1620 Savannah Hwy. Mr. Sturcken was born in Charleston on October 26, 1924, a son of William Thomas and Marguerite Ann Heissenbuttle Sturcken. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School, Bishop England High School and honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his return to the United States following his tour of duty he vowed never to fly again and did not until yesterday when he was returned home to Charleston. Mr. Sturcken loved the Lowcountry outdoors and could often be found hunting and fishing. He was most proud of his wife of sixty-two years and bragged often about his children. Mr. Sturcken will be remembered for his great sense of humor and telling funny stories. He is survived by his loving wife, Claudia S. Sturcken; his children: Naomi Elizabeth Brawner, William F. Sturcken, Jr., Thomas H. Sturcken, Mary Ellen Del Rose, Linda Diane Monaghan, Kelly Ann Fellows, Billie Jo McKenzie and Tammy Idell Breeden; fifteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a sister: Phyllis Ann Cumbee as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
