William Francis Riley

William Francis Riley, 89, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held at 10:30AM, Saturday, May 18, 2024, Cryptside, at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island.

Billy aka "Sarge" was born February 19, 1935, in Charleston, SC, a son of the late Phillip James Riley and Vera Holcombe Riley. Sarge grew up in the city of Charleston where he attended St. Patricks and Bishop England schools. He served in the Marine Corps (hence the name, Sarge) and was retired from the Army National Guard. He also retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

Sarge was a member of The Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge and the Rifle Club of Charleston. He was also a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Sarge is survived by his sister, Patricia A. Riley of West Ashley, his nephews, John P. Riley of Mt. Pleasant and Paul A. Riley (Melissa) of Medford, NJ as well as a dear friend and right hand, Judy A. Hatchell of Charleston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Phillip J. Riley, Jr. and Charles Anthony Riley. He was also preceded in death by his best friend and companion for 25 years, Murle Kestler.
