We regret to announce that Whiteford Cornell “Mac” McWaters III, 53, of Summerville, South Carolina, died Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Mac was born in Gastonia, NC and raised in Clover, SC, by the late Whiteford Cornell “Butch” McWaters, Jr. and Donna McCall McWaters. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Michele Rene Tadlock McWaters of Summerville; brother, Bryan Ashley McWaters of Clover; three nephews, Jackson McWaters of Concord, NC, Kennedy McWaters of Clover, and Noah Whitworth of Tega Cay; three nieces, Marilyn Whitworth of Tega Cay, Ellie Tadlock and Josephine Tadlock of Summerville and many other family and friends.
Mac graduated from Clover High School in 1988 and from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC in 1997 with a Bachelor's Degree in exercise science and biology. He later earned a Master's Degree in physical therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2005.
Mac was a Desert Storm veteran, proudly serving in the US Army and reaching the rank of Major before retiring after more than 30 years of service to his country. He earned countless honors, awards and achievements for his combat support and humanitarian aid provided during his stateside service and overseas deployments.
In addition to being an outstanding soldier, Mac was an attentive, caring and generous member of his community. Mac spent the last 18 years of his life serving his community as a dedicated and talented physical therapist, providing in-home healthcare support to those most in need. Words cannot express our devastation. Mac will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 PM, Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway Charleston, SC 29407.
Mac's Graveside Funeral Service with military honors will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC 29902. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
Mac's family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Medical Center, 109 Bee Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
