Wendy D. Craven

February 6, 1949 — October 27, 2023

Wendy Diane Craven, 74, wife of Jimmy Craven, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, October 27, 2023. The relatives and friends of Jimmy and Wendy Craven are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial 2:00 PM Monday, October 30, 2023 at Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Road, James Island. The Rite of Committal will follow at the Mausoleum of Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Wendy was born February 6, 1949 in Birmingham, England, the only daughter of Philip Albert Eacock, Sgt RAF and Muriel Cox Eacock, manager of NAAFI clubs. She had a childhood filled with many adventures while being stationed in Libya, Germany, Wales and England. She graduated from Windsor Girls School, Germany. In 1967, she was asked to a Christmas dance by an American Airman. That Christmas dance led to 54 years of marriage to the love of her life, Jimmy. She became the mother to 3 daughters and took great pride as her family expanded with sons-in-law and grandchildren.

Wendy spent many years as an assistant at The O’Quinn School, where she touched so many lives. Her faith was unwavering, even as she battled her illness. She spent many years serving Nativity Church in many capacities: Eucharistic Minister, Ladies' Guild, Bereavement, Environment Ministry, cleaning vessels, and making sure the altar server robes were just right. Wendy lived a very faith-filled life and was always praying for others or sending them cards of encouragement. Even in her last hours she was thinking of others, making sure we were all ok.

Wendy was predeceased by her parents, her dear “sister friend” Marti Turner, her corgi Lady, as well as many in-laws. She is survived by her loving husband, who lived his vows taking such precious care of her. Wendy is also survived by her daughters and their families: Amber Knight (Watson), Lisa Tempel (Michael), Tanya Croft (Eric); grandchildren: Abigail Melven (William), Garrett Tempel (Brookelyn), Ainsley Knight, Wyatt Knight; sister-in-law Sister Stella Maris Craven; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends in England, and her precious Labradoodle Lila.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the loving nurses at Roper Hospital, and her many doctors through the years: Madison Shipp, PA-C, Dr. George Keogh, Dr. Daniel Kirchhoff, Dr. Sidney Smith, Dr. Hugh Thompson, and Dr. Jeffrey Rieder, words cannot express our gratefulness to you.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Wendy’s name can be made to the Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Road, or to Nativity School, 1125 Pittsford Circle, Charleston, SC 29412.

Arrangements by James A. McAlister, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC. (843) 766-1365
