Walter Randolph “Randy” Nelson, passed away in his home in Westminster, SC on September 21, 2017. Randy, son of Ernest R. Nelson and Mary Ann Cotten, was born March 6, 1955 in Charleston, SC, where he lived most of his life. Following his lifelong love of the mountains and nature, he recently moved upstate, just outside of Clemson, SC. A graduate of Bishop England High School, Randy enjoyed a successful career in the sporting goods industry. Though he called on his customers professionally, most would consider him a lifelong friend. Randy was a devoted father and passed on his love of hiking, boating and the Clemson Tigers to his only daughter Lauren. He is most well known as the hardest working neighbor and friend who never shied away from lending a hand, whether you asked for it or not. He was a compassionate man with a heart of gold. The many random acts of kindness to his family, his many friends and neighbors is a testament to that. Though he spent the majority of his free time helping others, he also enjoyed working in his yard and golf cart rides with his four-legged best friend, “Maddie”. He never missed a chance to tailgate and cheer on his beloved Clemson Tigers. Although his life on earth was cut short, we will remember Randy, our son, our brother, our father, our uncle, our nephew, our friend. We will always remain forever grateful for having known him. He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann C. Nelson; his daughter, Lauren Cameron Nelson; two brothers, E. Raymond Nelson (Carolyn) and David L. Nelson (Layne); nieces, Christian Nelson Garcia (Carlos), Austin Nelson and Kayla Nelson; nephew, Michael Nelson. He also survived by his aunts, Jeanne Nelson and Martha C. Johnson, his uncle, George Nelson (Anne) and a long list of cousins. He had a growing family of friends in the Upstate and spent the last year doing everything he loved most. The relatives and friends of Walter Randolph Nelson are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 29, 2017, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM, Thursday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home.
