The relatives and friends of Virginia Theresa Svendsen are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Monday, November 7, 2011, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The Rite of Committal will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home 1620 Savannah Hwy. this Sunday evening between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. A Vigil Service will begin at 6:45 PM. Virginia was born in Charleston on August 30, 1918, a daughter of Virgil Dibble and Theresa Riley Svendsen. She graduated from Bishop England High School and The St. Francis School of Nursing class of 1940. Virginia was a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Hospital for over forty years. GinGin, as she was affectionately called by her nieces and nephews, was the Secretary for the Charleston Pony Club for many years and was a life long member of the Cathedral of St. John The Baptist . She was predeceased by a sister Laura S. Steele and is survived by her sister, Inga S. Smith; her nieces and nephews, Virginia T. McAlister, James A. McAlister III,his wife Philippa, Mary Mc. Bryan,her husband George, Francis W. T. McAlister, Inga Mc. Sullivan,her husband John, E. Springs Steele,his wife Marilyn, Virgil S. Steele,his wife Anne, Timothy McG. Steele and Jonathan A. Steele; her great nieces and nephews, James E. Carroll III, F. Winslow Carroll, T. Capers Carroll, James A. McAlister IV, Catherine A. McAlister, John P. McAlister , Jonathan D. Steele, Anna S. Culkin, Matthew Steele and Katie Steele as well as four great great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
