Virginia "Ginnie" Swain McKay Hamby, 33, of James Island, the wife of Brandon Hamby, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 29, 2009. She was born in Charleston, a daughter of Robert Clement McKay, Jr and Lynda Burbage McKay, on Wednesday, September 8, 1976. Ginnie was a graduate of James Island High School and of Trident Technical College. She worked as an Assistant Teacher at the O'Quinn School on James Island and was a member of Harbor View Presbyterian Church. With the many trials she had to overcome in life, through it all, her smile always shown brightly. The best years of her life have been spent with her loving husband, Brandon and the sparkle in her eye, her daughter, Carson both surviving her. Ginnie is also survived by her parents, Robert C. and Lynda B. McKay; a sister, Robin M. Alexander and her husband Brian; a niece and nephew, Riley Alexander and Brian Alexander, Jr and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 1, 2010 between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. The relatives and friends of Virginia "Ginnie" Swain McKay Hamby are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Harbor View Presbyterian Church, 900 Harbor View Road, James Island. The committal will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to the Carson McKenna Hamby College Fund at any First Federal Bank of Charleston.
