Virgina Martha Waters Brooker, wife of the late Dr. Oryliss L. Brooker, passed away Friday June 8, 2012 at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her sister, Lucille Waters Dyer and her nephew Eldon L (Skip) Dyer of Charleston, SC. She was born in River Rouge, MI on October 7, 1923, the daughter of Eugene J Waters and Myrtle F Pelon. She grauated from Arlington Heights High School, Ft. Worth, TX and from St Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Ft Worth as a Registered Nurse in 1945. She furthered her study in Michigan for a year in a Pediatrics Clinic. She spent over 30 years as a Registered Nurse in a private practice in Michigan. In 1983 she married Dr. Brooker and lived in the Deerfield Beach area until 2008 when she moved to Charleston, SC as a widow to be with family and friends. Some of Virginia's passions were reading, playing Bridge and following sports events, particularly Golf because of her husband's dedication to the game. Her lively, strong personality inspired those around her to more actively participate in life's events, even as she faced the burden of blindness in her later years. She was always an advocate of more education. Virginia's love of family dominated her attributes. She is survived by her sister, Jackie Bluth of Livonia, MI; her niece Donna Botkin of Cleburne, TX, and great nephews Joe Botkin of Frisco, TX & Terry Don Botkin of Cleburne, TX; her niece Julia Dyer of Charleston; her great nephews Josh Dyer of Charleston, Nathan Dyer of Knoxville, TN & Weston Dyer of Fort Mill, SC.; extended family & friends in Charleston, & long-time friends Vicky Feaman of Deerfield Beach, FL & Kristine Pippin of Charleston, SC. Arrangements are in the care of James McAlister Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Road on James Island.
