Trenholm Heyward Gibbes Copeland, formerly of Charleston and a resident of California, died August 25, 2016, in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 57. Her Memorial Service will be held in Charleston at 3:00 pm Saturday, September 10, 2016, at the Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Ave. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church parish hall. A private burial will be held in Charleston at a later date.
Trenholm Copeland was born in Charleston on November 27, 1958. She was the daughter of Mary Lynch McQueen and the late John Ross Copeland. A graduate of the High School of Charleston, she also attended Bishop England High School and the University of South Carolina. She was an Episcopalian.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a brother, Henry de Saussure Copeland of Charleston; a nephew, Martin Tobias Copeland, a grand-nephew, Samuel Isaac Copeland, and a grand-niece, Hannah Taylor Copeland, all of Portland, Oregon. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a brother, John Lynch McQueen Copeland, in 1979.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be given to the McQueen-Copeland Endowment Fund for Undergraduate Studies in History, c/o University of South Carolina Educational Foundation, Office of Development, 1027 Barnwell St, Columbia, SC 29208, or to a charity of one’s choice.
