Tomas Mckinney Cardwell

Tomas McKinney Cardwell, 28, of Charleston, SC, the loving son of the late Helene Eriksson Cardwell, from Sweden and Dale Cardwell, of Charleston, passed unexpectedly from this life on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Tomas was born in Wilmington, NC on March 29, 1989. He moved to Sweden in 1998 with his family and returned to the US in 2007, with his father and younger brother, after the death of his mother. Tomas graduated from R J Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and attended UNC Charlotte. He eventually moved to Charleston in 2012, where he spent the remainder of his life living with his father and brother. Tomas prided himself in his family and in taking care of his younger brother, Erik.His ever-present smile, kind eyes, and compassionate spirit was known to all whom he met, as the kind-hearted, trustworthy person, who gave much of himself to help others. Everywhere he lived, he was well-respected, a mentor and good friend to many. His steady, calm nature of fearless resilience reassured all who knew him. He was a bright light in the lives of all of those whom he met, and an admired long-term employee and manager at Jason’s Deli. His cultural exposure, trilingual fluency, mental acuity, and empathy was admired by many.Tomas enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones, playing basketball, and playing collectible trading card games, where his intelligence, wit, and good humor was made clear.Tomas is survived by his father, Dale Cardwell; his younger brother, Erik Cardwell and an extensive family, from NC, Tennessee, and Sweden.The relatives and friends of Tomas M. Cardwell are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth St., Charleston. A Luncheon will follow in the courtyard. The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 PM, Wednesday, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
