Thomas Floyd Newton

August 30, 1957 — August 11, 2024

Thomas "Tom" Newton, of Charleston, SC, passed away on August 11, 2024.

Tom was born August 30, 1957, in Charleston, SC. He  was the son of the late Robert and Miriam Newton.

Tom grew up downtown playing on the horse lot and Moultrie playground. He attended the Cathedral Catholic School, Bishop England High School and the College of Charleston. While at the College of Charleston, he became a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. Tom later joined the family business and operated several retail stores in the Charleston City Market for decades.

Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Tom was always the life of the party and constantly made new, lifelong friends from his childhood until his passing. He loved sports, in particular, the Green Bay Packers and the South Carolina Gamecocks. However, there was nothing he loved more than being a father to his daughter, Kathleen Momenzadeh (Nikan) and his son, Connor Newton.

Tom is survived by his two children; his brothers, Daniel Newton (Ann) and Barry Newton (Sue); and his nieces, Caitlin Attaway (Alex) and April Miller (Sam).

The family will receive friends between 4:00 and 6:00 PM, Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston.
