Theresa Karin Whitney, 56, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021.
The relatives and friends of Theresa K. Whitney are invited to attend her Liturgy of the Word at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Theresa was born in Charleston, South Carolina on September 15, 1964. She graduated from Bishop England High School, after which she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Campbell University and her Masters of Business Administration degree from Pheiffer University. She was a Supply Chain Manager for several manufacturing firms in North and South Carolina throughout her career.
She was a lifelong cat lover who adopted many of her furry friends from rescue organizations that she supported over the years. She was famous for her kindness and generosity and her greatest joy was helping others. She loved organizing and participating in benefit events for charities, as well as creatively thinking up a million tiny ways to lift people’s spirits, make them laugh, and brighten their days. Her favorite season was Christmastime, during which she decorated, baked and distributed gifts extensively. Theresa adored her many nieces and nephews, and as well as their friends, many of whom also considered her their adopted aunt. To know Theresa was to love her, and the world is truly a dimmer place now that she has gone, but her friends and family will carry all of their fond memories of her in their hearts. She will always be our Christmas angel.
Theresa is predeceased by her parents, James R Whitney and Martha Patricia Whitney. She is survived by her seven siblings: Bernadette Faretra of Charleston, South Carolina, Carlene Anderson of Hollywood, South Carolina, Russell Whitney of Nashville, Tennessee, Andrew Whitney of Florence, South Carolina, Janice Fisher of Bolton, Ontario, Melissa Canitano of Edisto Beach, South Carolina, and April Woodward of Laurel, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, or to the local animal rescue of your choice.
