Theresa Marie Kanapaux (Terry), 73, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Roper Hospice Cottage, following a years-long battle with cancer.
Theresa was born May 3, 1949, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Frank Patrick Kanpaux, Jr. and Beatrice Maude Addison Kanapaux and was raised alongside older brothers, Frankie and Bernie. She was a student at Blessed Sacrament and Bishop England High School. Theresa went on to work in fields as diverse as health care, horticulture and hospitality. However, she thought of herself primarily as a loving daughter to her parents and a role-model, teacher, and friend to her children, whose lives she impacted so greatly. While her life on occasion necessitated leaving the lowcountry, Terry always considered Charleston to be her true home and the smells of jasmine and pluff mud would inevitably draw her back.
Terry is survived by her daughter, Dana Marie Whittle (Mark Maheras); son, John Eidson Whittle III; brother, Robert Bernard (Bernie) Kanapaux; nephews, Michel Kanapaux, Robert Bernard (Bernie) Kanapaux, Jr. and Scott Lawrence Kanapaux; nieces, Renee Kanapaux Murphy and Tammy Kanapaux Erwin; great-niece, Madison Kanapaux, as well as great-nephews, Lucas and Landyn Kanapaux.
She is preceded by her husband, John Eidson Whittle, Jr. (October 6, 1977); her brother, Frank Patrick Kanapaux III (February 28, 1995) and her nephew, Frank Patrick Kanapaux IV (October 7, 2009).
Her Funeral Service will be at 6:00 PM, Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry's name to the American Breast Cancer Society ( www.abcf.org ), or a like-minded charity of your choosing.
