Mrs. Thelma L. Muckenfuss, 93, a resident of Charleston and the wife of George W. Muckenfuss, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. George Muckenfuss are invited to attend her funeral service 10:30 AM Saturday, March 7, 2015, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 413 Geddes Ave., Charleston. Interment will follow at Christ Episcopal Churchyard, Hwy. 174, Adams Run, SC. The family will receive friends Friday evening between 5:00 & 7:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. A daughter of Joseph and Mary Gatch, Thelma grew up in Adams Run. She was educated in the local schools and graduated from St. Paul's High School. Thelma went to work as a clerk for the Seaboard Railroad (CSX), and worked her way up to Chief Clerk, a position she held until retirement after 45 years of service. Thelma was first married to Hallie Scarborough, who preceded her in death. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Thelma leaves a legacy of hard work and devotion to her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers, and was especially proud of her role as a homemaker who took care of her husband. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, and also a member of Betsy Ross Chapter 189 of the Eastern Star, for which she was a Past Worthy Matron. Thelma was also a member of the Huguenot Society. Thelma is survived by her husband of 31 years, George W. Muckenfuss; her daughter, Thelma "Bunnie" Buchheit and her husband Ron; two grandchildren, Edward L. "Crockett" Clark and wife Georgia, Theresa Ann Clements and husband Kyle; 5 great-grandchildren, Matthew L. Clark, Jonathon, Morgan, Spencer, & Keelie Witt; 2 Brothers, James N. & Herbert D. Gatch, 1 Sister, Betty Inabinett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred J. Gatch, and her sister, Myrtle T. Gatch.
