Teresa Margaret Fox

Teresa (Terry) Fox, 79, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, peacefully in her sleep.

Born on October 16, 1944, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of Nan Fox and Alec Fox.

Terry graduated from Syracuse University. She served the Department of Veterans Affairs her entire 37-year career. It began in Tampa, FL, where she made lifelong friendships and eventually met her husband, Jeff. Her career led her to Washington, D.C., where she and Jeff would raise their two daughters, Meghan and Erin. She loved her work and retired more than once. After her first retirement, she went to work for Virginia Tech as Director of Dietetic internships. She taught and mentored her students as she did others throughout her career. After her final retirement, she and her husband moved to Charleston, SC, to be close to their eldest daughter and three grandchildren.

Terry was a “People Person”. She had an innate ability to connect with others and was always making new friends.

Terry loved life. She loved to travel, from cross-country road trips with the family to Cowboys games with her sister and nephew and, more recently, a lady’s trip to Ireland and one to Iceland with her youngest daughter. Terry loved water. She enjoyed swimming and even did synchronized swimming. She also found listening to the water soothing. Terry enjoyed bridge, golf, bowling, and dancing the jitterbug. Her family has fond memories of dancing to the jitterbug during rainstorms under the carport at their Stoneybrook home in Virginia.

Family was primary for Terry — she was proud of her girls and would always go to bat for them. She demonstrated her dedication by being PTA President at Rose Hill Elementary. She was supportive of all her family's pursuits and had a way of always being there for them the way they needed.

Terry was a caring and wonderful friend. The friends she made are the friends she has kept throughout her life. She was generous with her time, as well as herself. Terry and her husband, Jeff, were known for their Mexican-themed Christmas Eve parties and for being gracious hosts.

Terry lived life to the fullest and will be sorely missed.

Terry is survived by her loving husband, Denis J. Ramirez (Jeff), her sister, Patricia Bundy, her children, Meghan McKenzie and Erin Fox-Ramirez, her son-in-law, Jacob McKenzie; her grandchildren, Harper McKenzie, Jacob McKenzie, Jr., and Reece McKenzie, and other relatives.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 11 AM to 1 PM, for those who would like to attend. The family will receive friends and family at The Ramirez residence, 1617 Sanford Rd, Charleston, SC 29407.

In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or World Central Kitchen .
