She was born November 13, 1936, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the daughter of Frederic Curry Pepper and Jean Reppert Pepper. She graduated from Ashley Hall School where she excelled as an athlete, representing the Purple Team in Basketball, Swimming and Synchronized Swimming. Sue then attended Marshall College, spending her days between her academic pursuits in Journalism and her sorority, Tri Delta.
Sue married George in 1956. After George graduated from The Citadel, George and Sue traveled around the United States as a Air Force family. They always considered Charleston their home, returning here for summer vacations with their daughters on The Isle of Palms. Sue was a Master Gardener and an avid traveler, particularly partial to the mountains of North Carolina. She will always be remembered for her great laugh and sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband, George; her daughters, Sue Klump Mevers (Billy) and Sally Klump Ward; four grandchildren: Chris Mevers (DeAnn), Alison Ward, Andrew Ward, Arthur Ward (Rosy); and six great grandchildren.
