Stephanie Dellis, 55, of Charleston, passed away June 17, 2012. A native of Manistique MI, she was the daughter of Ignatius and the late Elizabeth Pahnelas Dellis. Stephanie is survived by her father, her aunt, Maryanna Hite, uncle, Gus Pahnelas, cousins and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, George. Stephanie attended the College at Michigan State University, E. Lansing MI, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. She worked in Biology/Medical Research at Michigan State University and completed her Post Graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning her PhD in Bacteriology. She went on to publish many articles on molecular biology in professional journals and gave presentations at national meetings. Stephanie taught biochemistry as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Bowling Green University, Bowling Green, OH in 1998. She also taught molecular biology at the College of Charleston and mentored undergraduates in research projects. Steph was also a Visiting Scientist/Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. She taught at the National Youth Science Camp to encourage graduating high school students to pursue careers in the sciences. Stephanie's favorite past time was Photography. She created the most beautiful photos of scenes in nature. Some of her favorite sites were Magnolia Gardens and Folly Beach. Steph loved to travel and explore to find the best angles for her photoraphs. She was game for any adventure from snorkeling in the Caribbean to hiking the mountains in Utah's National Parks, to disco dancing in New York nightclubs; Stephanie had such a zest for life! The relatives and friends of Dr. Stephanie Dellis are invited to attend her funeral service at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 20, 2012, from the chapel of the James A. McAlister Funeral Home.
