Sister Jean Marie O'Shea, a Sister of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy, died on August 12, 2012. Sr. Jean Marie, formerly Mary Regina O'Shea, was born in New York City on June 11, 1931. A graduate of St. Angela Academy, Aiken SC, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Villanova University. Sister Jean Marie entered the convent on August 15, 1951. She professed her first vows on April 19, 1954 and final vows April 6, 1957. Sister Jean Marie was an elementary school educator who taught at Sacred Heart School in Charleston, SC as well as St. Mary's School, Greenville, SC, St. Anne's School, Sumter, SC, St. Mary Help of Christian School, Aiken, SC, Christ Our King/Stella Maris School, Mt. Pleasant, SC, St. Michael's School, Gibbstown, NJ and Our Lady of Mt. Virgin School, Middlesex, NJ. She also served at the Charleston Home for Children in Charleston, SC. Sister Jean Marie was Director of Religious Education at Blessed Sacrament Parish and St. Joseph Parish in Charleston and from 2002 until 2012 was Director of Senior Ministry at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Charleston. In 2007, Sr. Jean Marie was recognized for her service to the community receiving the Post & Courier Jefferson Award. Sister was predeceased by her parents and sisters and is survived by several cousins and her Sisters in community, The Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Center, PO Box 607, John's Island, SC 29457. Friends are invited to call at the Motherhouse, 424 Fort Johnson Rd. Charleston, SC on Wednesday, August 15 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. A Vigil Service will be held at the Motherhouse on Wednesday, August 15th at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Motherhouse of the Sisters, 424 Ft. Johnson Road, Charleston, SC on Thursday, August 16th at 11:15 am. The Rite of Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
