Sister Mary Helen Grobusky, a Sister of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy, died at May Forest, on April 11, 2014. Sr. Helen, formerly Frances Anne Theresa Grobusky, was born in Anderson, SC on June 10, 1915 to Joseph Thomas and Mary Catherine Sokol Grobusky. A graduate of St. Angela Academy, Aiken, SC she earned an RN from St. Catherine Hospital School of Nursing, Brooklyn, NY in 1942. Sister also attended Our Lady of Mercy Jr. College in Charleston and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Sister Helen entered the convent on September 24, 1936. She professed her first vows on April 1, 1939 and final vows March 25, 1949. From 1942 until 1992, Sister Helen dedicated her life caring for the sick as a nurse in St. Francis Xavier Hospital, Charleston, SC and at Divine Savior Hospital and Nursing Home in York, SC. At St. Francis Xavier Hospital, Sister Helen served as a medical-surgical nurse and filled various supervisory positions including obstetrics supervisor, operating room supervisor, night supervisor, and head nurse. At Divine Savior Hospital, Sister Helen served as a night supervisor, operating room supervisor, and coordinator of the Emergency Room. At Divine Savior Nursing Home, Sister served as a charge nurse. Sister was also a school nurse at St. Angela Academy, Aiken SC and St. Mary's School, Greenville, SC. Sister Helen was a long time member of St. Catherine Hospital Alumnae Association. In retirement, Sister Helen was an active participant in the prayer ministry of the Motherhouse community of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy. Sister was predeceased by her parents and several siblings. She is survived by her sister Agnes Overton, Woodbridge, IL, many nieces and nephews and her Sisters in community, The Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Center, PO Box 607, Johns Island, SC 29457. Friends are invited to call at the Motherhouse, 424 Fort Johnson Rd. James Island, SC on Sunday, April 13th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The Vigil Service will be held at the Motherhouse Chapel on Sunday, April 13th at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at May Forest, Motherhouse Chapel on Monday, April 14th at 11:00 am. The Rite of Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
