Sister M. deNeri Faase died at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy on Monday, August 3, 2009. The relatives and friends of Sister M. deNeri are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at the Motherhouse Chapel, May Forest Convent, 424 Ft. Johnson Rd., at 2:00 PM. Thursday, August 6, 2009. Friends may call at the Motherhouse on Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. A Vigil Service will be held in the Chapel at 6:30 PM. The Rite of Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Sister M. deNeri formerly Elizabeth G. Faase, daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Lennon Faase, was born Saturday, January 25, 1908 in New York City. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary's Academy, Newburgh, NY, Hunter College, New York City and received a Master's degree in Library Science from Catholic University , Washington, DC. She entered religious life in 1936 . During her 73 years as a Sister of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy, Sister deNeri taught in Charleston, SC at St. Joseph's School and Bishop England High School. Sister deNeri also taught in Sumter, SC at St. Catherine's Kindergarten and the Sumter Missions. Sister was on the faculty of St. Angela Academy, Aiken, SC for 36 years serving as a teacher, principal and librarian. Sister deNeri was also a poet and an experienced musician with expertise on the organ and piano. From 1938 to 1953, she was part of the summer staff at Camp St. Mary's in Bluffton, SC. After leaving Aiken, Sister deNeri taught evening adult education classes in Sumter, SC and was a tutor in the Literacy Program at Out Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Services on Johns Island, SC. Sister deNeri's brother, Rev. Albert Faase, a priest of the Diocese of Charleston for many years, died in 1997. She is survived by devoted relatives; her niece, Judy, and husband, Jack Koeppl; three nephews, Bert, Frank and Thomas Faase, their wives and children and her cousins Han and Marja Bonarius and family of Holland and her sisters in the community of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy, Charleston, SC.
