Shirley Lee Reinhardt

July 8, 1934 — June 3, 2019

Shirley Lee Reinhardt, 84, of Charleston, SC, died Monday, June 3, 2019.

She was born to the late Theron and Myrle Wright on July 8, 1934, in Charleston, IL. She grew up in Charleston and graduated from Charleston High School, where she was a drum majorette.

Shirley lived the military life in various places around the world with her first husband, CSM E. “Fitz” Fitzsimmons, eventually settling with her daughter, Connie, in Sarasota, FL. She held a longtime position at Nicholas & Cannon Insurance Agency, retiring in 1999. She and her late husband Les were married in 1991. They were members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, FL, where she was a dedicated member of the deacons, sang in the choir, played hand bells, and was an active social coordinator and friend to many. She and Les loved traveling and exploring the world together. Shirley was also an avid college football fan (especially the Florida Gators) as well as a lifelong Chicago Cubs baseball fan.

She became known as “Gigi” when her great-grandchildren came along, a role that brought her great joy. Family members looked forward to receiving her personalized photo cards on birthdays and enjoying her “green stuff” at holiday meals. Following her move to Charleston, SC, she became a member of Coastal Community Church, where she was known and loved as “Miss Shirley.” She loved living near the water in Charleston in her final years, enjoying her view with her cat, Nikki, and surrounded by loving family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Les. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Strickland and her husband Charlie; her stepdaughter, Susan Lloyd and her husband David; her sister, Joan Hubele; her brother, Tom Wright and his wife Delma; her grandchildren, Eric Strickland and his wife Kim, Lisa Harris and her husband Shannon and April Sturgis and her husband Robert; and six great-grandchildren, Jackson Strickland, Anna Strickland, Charlotte Strickland, Madeleine Harris, Fiona Harris, and Grant Sturgis.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, June 10, 2019, at Coastal Community Church. The family plans to hold another service in Bradenton, FL, later this summer.
