Shirley Ann Funk (nee Collins), 89, of Ravenel, SC (formerly of Lakeland, FL) passed away comfortably in her home on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Shirley was the youngest of five children, born on June 17, 1936 to John E. and Anna G. Collins of Buffalo, NY. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Herbert Webster Funk for 59 years, until his death on March 19, 2016. She is also preceded by her son, Robert M. Funk, who passed away in 1990.
In her younger days, Shirley was an avid golfer (one hole-in-one, thank you very much) and business owner. She enjoyed good conversation over a glass of wine, liked to play games, and read thrillers. At family weddings, she could be found on the dance floor. 100% Irish with quick wit and not mincing words, she and Herb were blessed to travel to Ireland during one of their many retirement trips.
Together, Shirley and Herb raised eight children in West Seneca and later Springville, NY. She is survived by her sister, Mary Costello; seven children, Paul E. Funk of Sewickley, PA, Susan M. Carlisle of Alpharetta, GA, Thomas J. Funk (Heidi) of Buffalo, NY, Carol A. Haas (Clay) of West Seneca, NY, Ellen M. Dudas (Bill) of Littleton, CO, David M. Funk (Sandra) of Ravenel, SC, Janet L. Funk (John) of Portland, OR; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews, and lots of friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 888 King Street, Charleston, SC. Interment in Buffalo, NY will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC. A Vigil Service will follow the visitation, beginning at 7:00 PM.
