A lifelong learner and talented teacher, she taught a generation of Lutherans as a volunteer teacher of Sunday School and Confirmation classes. She was an avid reader of a variety of subjects, particularly of mystery novels, as well as history and religion; it was often said of her that if she learned something, she could teach it. Her creative side was equally varied, including quilting, needlework, sewing, jewelry, and a special enthusiasm for interior design. She also loved to travel, in recent years visiting a number of western states and national parks and learning about everything she saw along the way.
