Sarah McQueen Brown Warren, known to all as Sally, was born on July 2, 1939, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.

Sally was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late William O. Brown, Jr., and Jean McQueen Brown. She attended Ashley Hall from first through tenth grade, where she made many lifelong friends and was awarded the Barbara Ann Huguenin Memorial Cup for Leadership in 1950. One of her proudest childhood accomplishments was being chosen by Miss McBee to play a baby angel in the beloved Ashley Hall Christmas Play.

When her family moved from downtown Charleston to what was then the small town of Mount Pleasant, Sally completed her high school education at General William Moultrie High School, graduating with the Class of 1957.

After high school, Sally worked for many years as a secretary and office manager at the Charleston Development Board, where she earned the nickname "Total Recall," thanks to her remarkable memory.

Sally was an amazing and loving mother to her two children, Nancy and Bill, raising them with absolute selfless devotion, patience, humor, and kindness. Taking care of her family was the most important thing in Sally's life.

Sally was also a gifted seamstress, creating everything from beautiful quilts and complete outfits to countless dolls and special "stuffies." Her greatest love and talent, however, was the traditional Charleston art of smocking. For decades, she lovingly hand-smocked countless bishop dresses, bubbles, bonnets, and John Johns for family and friends.

Sally loved her Lowcountry life on both sides of the bridge but found her true happiness in the beautiful village of McClellanville, surrounded by dear friends and family. She loved her job as bookkeeper at McClellanville Middle School and the friendly, open-door life the village had to offer. Sally never met a stranger and had a special place in her heart for those who were struggling or in need.

Although lovingly raised as an Episcopalian, once in the village, Sally found her forever church home at McClellanville United Methodist Church. Sally was known for her sensitive and kind nature, her wonderful sense of humor, and her ability to laugh at almost anything. She was fiercely loyal to her family and dedicated her life to their happiness. Sally's grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her endless happiness and joy.

Sally was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Edmund Wade Brown III; and her great-nephew, Joshua T. Brown. “Joshua 1:9 forever”.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy McQueen Hussey; her son, William Dalton "Bill" Warren; her grandchildren, Curtis Mitchell (Jennifer), Sarah Mitchell, Charles Hussey, Tim Hussey, Michael Hussey, and Dalton Warren; and her great-grandchildren, Duke Reagan, Foster and Birdie Mitchell, Charles, Marlowe, Shep and Amelia Hussey, and Merrick and Leo Hussey.

She is also survived by her nephew, Edmund Wade Brown IV (Cynthia); her niece, Jennifer Ann Brown Wagner (Mike Best); many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and her special cousin, Jeanne Snider.

Sally's relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407.
