Sarah P. Hanckel, 85, of Johns Island, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 surrounded by her family. Sally was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, the fifth girl of eight children to Gaillard and Mary DuTart Pinckney. She was the former wife of Richardson Miles "Sunny" Hanckel. She was a member of St. John's Parish Church on Johns Island and a member of The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina. As an executive's wife, much time was dedicated to social aspects of Coburg Dairy, Southeastern Wildlife Exposition and other community-minded organizations. Known as "Mamoo" to many, she will be missed by six children: Richardson Miles Hanckel, Jr (Pam), William Haskell Hanckel (Susan), Burness Hanckel Skinner (John), Mary DuTart Hanckel (Thomas), Paul Stuart Hanckel (Mary Frances), Thomas Rhett Hanckel (Carlene); sixteen grandchildren and eight grandchildren-in-law; ten great-grandchildren with three more on the way; and adopted mother to a host of nieces and nephews. Sally is also survived by a sister Verdier Pinckney Fritz. The relatives and friends of Sarah P. Hanckel are invited to attend her Memorial Service at 11:00 AM Monday, October 28, 2013, at St. John's Parish Church. The family will receive friends between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 PM Sunday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
