Sarah Reynolds Fosberry

Sarah Reynolds Fosberry, wife of 49 years to Martin James Fosberry, passed peacefully at her home on Wadmalaw Island the morning of December 26, 2010. Sarah was born April 5, 1939, in Charleston, the eldest child of the late Lola Anderson and T. Willard Reynolds, MD. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School and The St. Francis School of Nursing. Upon completion of her studies, Sarah embarked on her lifelong career in nursing and healthcare. Sally cut her teeth as an operating room scrub nurse at St. Francis Hospital in 1960. She moved to the newly built North Trident Hospital in1975 as OR Coordinator. Her career track took her to OR Director, Director of Surgical Services, Chief Nursing Officer and VP Surgical Services at Trident Health Systems. In 1983, she traveled to Saudi Arabia to assist in opening King Fahad Hospital in Ryhad. Before retiring after 28 years, she assumed the roles of Surgical Consultant and Clinical Resources Director for HCA Southeast Division. She was a lifetime member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses, as well a founding boardmember of Hospice of Charleston. Sarah loved gardening and was an exceptional cook. She displayed both of these talents by regularly entertaining her family and friends in her home. She and Martin traveled often, but she loved being at home, surrounded by her family most of all. Along with her husband, Sarah is survived by her four sons, Martin James Fosberry, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Charleston, T. Willard Reynolds Fosberry and his wife, Marta, of Beaufort, Kevin Michael Fosberry and his wife, Rebecca, of Mt. Pleasant, and Rory Patrick Mulcahy Fosberry and his wife, Susan, of Beaufort. She is also remembered by her twelve beloved grandchildren Martin III, Mikell, Reed, and Lawton; Willard, Jr, Christopher, and Paige; Kevin Michael, Jr. and Helena; Sarah Kate, Anna, and Abigal. She is also survived by her two loving sisters, Katherine Reynolds Manning and her husband William E., of Summerville, and Elizabeth Reynolds Robinson and her husband, William C., of Beaufort. Along with her parents, Sarah was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Willard Reynolds, Jr. Many nieces and nephews will always remember "Aunt Sally". The family and friends of Sarah are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010, at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
