Samuel Gary Hammond, 72, of James Island, SC died Saturday, September 11, 2021. His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy, Charleston.
Gary was born in Chattanooga, TN to Samuel and Elizabeth Hammond. He attended Shorter College in Rome, Ga. then joined the United States Marine reserves. He with his brothers, Crockett and Lloyd were in the Agri Supply Business. He always said he never worked a day in his life because he loved his job.
He is survived by his wife, Marcela; daughters, Dava Cox of Columbia, SC and Chelsey Hammond of Charleston, SC; 2 grandchildren, Peyton and Alex; 2 great-grandchildren; his sister, Patricia of Rome, GA and his brothers, Crockett (Debbie) of Columbia, SC, Chris (Cindy) of Tifton, GA, Steven of Elijay, GA, Lloyd (Nancy) of Statesboro, GA and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Samuel was predeceased by his brother, Grant of Mobile, AL and his wife, Chalice Debra of Charleston, SC.
Gary was loved by many for his story telling and crazy shenanigans, his love of helping others all of which endeared him to those who crossed his path.
