Sally Anne Matteson Gorman, 93, of Meggett SC, wife of 69 years to the late Hugh W. Gorman, Sr., entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 16, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, June 21, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, James Island. The family will receive friends between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM Thursday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah HIghway, Charleston.
Sally was born February 14, 1931in Watertown, NY, a daughter of the late Edward Lyle Matteson and Ella Mae Moore Matteson. She was a graduate of Brownville Park High School, and later earned an RN degree from The Good Samaritan Hospital Nursing School in NY. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Brownville, NY.
Sally was a beautiful soul, who dedicated her life to her faith and her family. She worked at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, SC, but her passion was the nursery. She loved taking care of those newborn babies.
Sally was a devout Catholic. She sang in the choir at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and also served as a fill-in organist at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Meggett, SC. She would sew dresses for underprivileged girls that were sent by Priest from Africa and Asia as a part of her mission work.
Sally is survived by her children: Hugh W. Gorman, Jr. (Tammy) of Ravenel, Robert A. Gorman of Meggett, Timothy P. Gorman (Celeste) of Cross, Thomas A. Gorman, Sr. (Vickie) of Charleston, John F. Gorman (Ruth) of Gainesville, GA and Teresa Gorman Parish (Johnny) of Meggett; her 14 grandchildren, her 21 great-grandchildren and her brother Roy David Matteson of NY.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sally is preceded in death by her brothers: William "Bill" Matteson of NY and Leslie "Les" Matteson of NY; her sister, Margaret "Peggy" M. Hennigan of PA; and her great grandchild, Ridley Wienke of OH.
