Ryleigh Marie O'Brien

Ryleigh Marie O'Brien, 19, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest Thursday, July 22, 2021.

Ryleigh's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston. The family will receive friends between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM Tuesday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston.

Ryleigh was born in Charleston, SC on March 22, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas J. O’Brien and Denielle June. She attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Bishop England High School in 2020.

Ryleigh began volleyball at an early age and loved the game. She excelled in that sport and was on the Bishop England High School Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. She was on many club teams, including the Carolina Islanders Volleyball Club, MVP Volleyball Club, Charleston Juniors Volleyball Club, Holy City Volleyball Club and Coast United/Grand Strand Juniors Volleyball Club. Ryleigh loved her volleyball friends and the travels to the National Championships. Additionally, she was chosen for the USA High Performance Volleyball skills program several times.

Ryleigh is survived by her loving grandparents Edwin J. (“Butch”) and Beth O’Brien, her mother Denielle June, 6 siblings, loving aunts, uncles, and extended family, her dogs Oakley and Diesel, fellow athletes, and her Bishop England High School and St. Joseph Catholic Church Families.
