Ruth Mains Teppersmith

Ruth M. Teppersmith, 72, of Charleston, SC passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2024.

Ruth is survived by her wife, Jacqueline (Jac); her sister, Patricia; her brother, Michael and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, Dorothy and Charles Mains; her brothers, Chuck and Brian Mains; her sister, Suzy Shierlock and her son, John David Smith.

A native Charlestonian, Ruth attended St. Andrews High School and Trident Technical College. Early in life she knew she had an entrepreneur spirit, telling her mom after starting kindergarten, she was ready to get on with her career. Ruth had many fond memories of working at H&R Block, Lionel Play World and Sears. Her business savvy shined when she and her sisters opened SaS-E Ink printing in downtown Charleston. After 30 years of dedication to her customers, quality products and service, she was able to sell the business and retire.

Ruth always enjoyed traveling and since retiring, explored 49 states and four Canadian provinces from the RV with her wife and their two cats. She loved chatting with everyone and seeing so many beautiful sights. Ruth enjoyed hiking, spotting wildlife, being on the water, visiting museums, riding trains and visiting our National Parks. She loved reading and listening to true crime stories.

Ruth was a member of the BPOE Elk's Lodge No. 242 and loved visiting lodges while traveling.

Ruth made everyone who knew her laugh, cry and clap at all the stories she shared.

The family will receive friends between 2:00 and 4:00 PM, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy, Charleston.

Her ashes will be scattered at a later time.
