Ruth Morelli (Treat) Jones

Mrs. Ruth Morelli (Treat) Jones, 89, of Charleston, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012, after an extended illness. A native of Charleston, SC, "Ruthie" was the daughter of the late Joseph Garry Morelli and Ruth Alma Tumbleston Morelli. She was educated in the Charleston public schools, and graduated from the Memminger High School in 1941. An avid member of the Citadel Mall Walking Club, she also enjoyed square dancing as a member of the "Wappoo Wigglers". A lovely lady with a constant smile on her face, Ruth never met a stranger, and loved to dance, travel, and a good game of cards. Most of all, Ruthie was dedicated to her church (Sacred Heart Catholic) and her family. One of the highlights of Ruth's life was visiting the Vatican and being in the presence of Pope John Paul II. Ruth is survived by her 2 Daughters: Carol Treat Thomas and Husband Joey, and Kim "Kimmie" Treat Calhoun-Wren and husband Maynard; 4 Grandchildren: Joseph W. Thomas and wife Stephanie, Jeffrey A. Thomas, Zachary A. Calhoun, and Shawn Tucker Smith; Great-grandchildren, Emma Grace and Charles Dalton Thomas; 1 Brother, James K. (Jimmy) Morelli; 2 Stepdaughters: Patricia Hiott, and Katherine Kinard and Husband Johnny. Ruth was predeceased by her first husband, William L. Treat, as well as her second husband, Arthur P. Jones, 1 son, Louis Michael Tucker, and 1 brother, Joseph Larry Morelli. The relatives and friends of Ruth Morelli (Treat) Jones are invited to attend her funeral service 10:00 AM Monday, May 14, 2012, from the chapel of the James A. McAlister Funeral Home. The Rite of Committal will follow at the graveside, Holy Cross Cemetery, on James Island. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 888 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403, or to the Alzheimers Association of Charleston, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407 .
