Ruth Roumillat Canady

Ruth Roumillat Canady, 82, of Charleston, the widow of James M. "Punky" Canady, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Ruth was born in Charleston, SC on Saturday, October 13, 1928, the daughter of the late Austin Norman and Pearl (Mackey) Roumillat. A true animal lover, she was one of the founding members of the Frances R. Willis SPCA, personally rescuing hundred of animals. She played a very active role in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Creative and talented, she was a member of the Summerville Artist Guild. Carving, painting, knitting and even building doll houses, there was no craft or art she could not master. Ruth is survived by her four children, Dianne Hancock (William), Mary Canady, Ginny Canady and Jim Canady (Anne); four grandchildren, Theresa Moody (Buck), Tara Browder (Vince), Billy Hancock (Jennifer) and Jillian Canady; five great granddaughters, Pennie, Elizabeth, Candace, Katie and Paxton; two great grandsons, Matthew and Jacob and three brothers, Leroy Roumillat, Raymond Roumillat and Jack Roumillat. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway Charleston. No other services are scheduled.
