Rosemarie Shumate Paulling, 71, wife of Robert Murray Paulling III, entered into eternal rest on March 25, 2018. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Paulling III are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Rosemarie was born January 17, 1947, in New York, NY, a daughter of Rosemary Elizabeth Shumate and Oscar Norman Shumate. She graduated from Bishop England High School and earned a BA in Art from the College of Charleston as well as a Masters in Education from the College of Charleston. Rosemarie worked for over 20 years as a medical transcriptionist for MUSC, St. Francis, and The Naval Hospital in Charleston. She enjoyed painting and sketching, especially her two granddaughters. Rosemarie loved to sing and was a member of the choir at St. Phillip's Church and Christ-St. Paul’s Church. Her faith was unwavering and matched by few. She volunteered her time and talent at the Dream Center at Seacoast Church. Rosemarie was known to frequently quote scripture. She was also a published science fiction novelist and poet. Rosemarie was an avid reader and passionate advocate for the environment and children’s rights. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and was passionate about politics and volunteered as a poll watcher.
Rosemarie is survived by her husband, Robert Murray Paulling III; her daughter, Marcia Paulling Buchanan (Joshua Ewing Buchanan); her granddaughters: Harper Gail Buchanan and Eloise Rae Buchanan; her brothers, William Shumate (Estella), Robert Shumate and Thomas Shumate (Verna); her mother-in-law, Marcia Paulling; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-laws as well as nieces and nephews.
