Rose Mary Warren Saari, known as Rose by family and friends, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
She was a lifelong Charlestonian born on June 14, 1930, in Charleston and lived on James Island since 1960. She attended Bishop England High School and was a member of the Church of the Nativity on Folly Road. She had a long and successful career with Southern Bell & ATT Phone Companies. After retiring, she became an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Volunteer Group. Rose was also a member of the Charleston Hat Ladies, the Charleston Chapter 4 of the Daughters of the Confederacy, The Lowcountry Senior Center, and the Charleston Elks Does. She was always active and learning something new in all the various activities in which she would be engaged. In her eighties, she taught herself computer skills that she then used to create newsletters, generate her own seasonal and birthday cards, send emails, and engage in Facebook communications. Rose loved working and meeting people and kept busy with part-time jobs from working in property management to working in the Charleston County Auditor's Office. She will always be remembered for her joyous family Christmas parties featuring the anticipated Chinese Christmas gift exchange and her famous rum cake.
She was predeceased by her parents Edwin and Marie Warren and her four sisters: Helen Agnes Allen, Margurite Ponton, Betty Kiser, Marie Warren (TT), and her ex-spouse David R. Saari.
Rose was blessed with four children all living in Charleston: Elaine (Jack) Canter, David (Marcia) Saari, Lisa (Dean) Costas Saari, and Margaret (George) Durst. She always enjoyed and bragged about all of her 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, never forgetting anyone’s birthdays.
Rose's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3871 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy, Johns Island. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Churchyard. A reception will be held in the Family Life Center.
Rose requested that any memorials be sent to the Church of the Nativity on Folly Road or to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
