Rosa May Barnes Bendt, 94, left our world on the early morning of Friday, April 7, 2023, to begin her Spirit Journey, joining her family and friends who have gone before her.
Rosa’s Graveside Service will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Bethany Cemetery, 10 Cunnington Ave, Charleston, SC.
Rosa was born December 26, 1928 in Charleston, SC. She was a daughter of the late Rosa Belle Powers and John Henry Barnes. Rosa May married the love of her life, John Diedrich Bendt III on February 9, 1946.
Rosa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Along with the rest of her family, Rosa was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. She had a deep love for music, gardening, southern cooking and nature. Rosa really enjoyed family visits to Hampton Park and the Battery. One of her greatest joys in life was the time and memories she made with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Rosa is predeceased by her husband of 76 years; her eldest son Steven Eric Bendt; her sisters, Ellen Barnes Rooney and Kathleen Barnes Harris.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Diane Bendt; son John Diedrich Bendt IV; grandchildren, Steven Eric Bendt (Jessica), Mariah Shuman, Jeremy Bendt (Casey), and Leah Wagner Myaki (Shinya); and great-grandchildren, Makenzie Bendt and Steven Bendt; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Bendt Godfrey and Annie Laurie Bendt; as well as several much-loved nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made in Rosa’s honor to the Star Gospel Mission, 474 Meeting St., Charleston, SC 29403.
