Robert Thomas Wheeless, 77, of Charleston, Died Friday, June 5, 2009 in a local hospital. The relatives and friends of Robert T. Wheeless are invited to attend his funeral service at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Harbor View Presbyterian Church, 900 Harbor View Rd. Charleston, SC 29412. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home. Robert was born in Norfolk Virginia on December 28, 1931, the son of the late Robert Toombs and Susan Irene Brothers Wheeless. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and later went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired after 30 years of civil service specializing in Cathodic Protection with the Southern Division Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Charleston South Carolina. Robert was an active member of Harbor View Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and a choir member. He will be most remembered for faithfully serving the Lord through the church and as a loving and humorous husband, father, and grandfather. Mr Wheeless is survived by his sons; Scott Alan Wheeless and his wife Andrea of Clovis, CA, Robert Stuart Wheeless and his wife Ellen of Sanford, NC , Steven Marsh Wheeless of Charleston, SC, three grandchildren; Brett Wheeless and Jack Wheeless of Clovis, CA and Caroline Wheeless of Sanford, NC, as well as his brother Walter Earl Wheeless of North Charleston, SC. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Willie Marsh Braswell Wheeless. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Raise the Roof Fund c/o Harbor View Presbyterian Church, 900 Harbor View Rd, Charleston, SC 29412.
