Tovey, Sr. and Lucy Lockwood Tovey. He attended Porter Military Academy and St. Andrew’s High School before serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a combat controller.
He retired from Siemens Medical Systems as a Senior Engineer. After retirement he spent much of his time teaching guitar to students of all ages. He was also an accomplished artist, woodworker and an avid animal lover. He was a firearms instructor for the National Rifle Association as well as a lifelong member.
Robert was a Royal Arch Mason, a member of the Washington Light Infantry, a member of the St. Andrew’s Lodge, a former member of the Hibernian Society and a past Commander of St. Paul’s American Legion, Post 145.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Leake Tovey and daughter, Heather Elizabeth Tovey.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Christ-St. Paul's Church. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends between 4:00 and 6:00 PM Wednesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy, Charleston.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ-St. Paul's 4th Century Building Fund, 4981 Chapel Rd, Yonges Island, SC 29449
