Robert Eustace Register, Jr., 88, of Charleston, the husband of Mary Condon Montgomery Register, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. He was born in Kingstree, SC, the son of Robert Eustace Register, Sr and Lois Bruner Register, on May 30, 1921. Mr. Register spent a great part of his life in Columbia. His studies at the University of South Carolina were interrupted by World War II. Mr. Register joined the US Navy as a Lt. Junior Grade and served in the Pacific Theater. He returned to finish his education at UCLA and graduating from Notre Dame. In 1946 he married Ruth Banthin and moved back to Columbia, over the next 40 years he became a prominent Interior Designer. He was a member of the Richland Sertoma, Carolina Carolon, Saraband Club, Acres Club, National Society of Interior Design, Lyric Theater, Columbia Music Festival and Pi Kappa Phi. In 1979 Mr. Register moved Charleston after the passing of his wife and founded McKay Register Studio on Broad St. He Married Mary Condon Montgomery in 1981 and was a member of Blessed sacrament Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Mary C. Register; his two daughters, Libby Munn (Dan) of Columbia, SC and Gail Speelman (Rex) of Easton PA; five grandchildren, Clark Munn, Elizabeth Munn, Allen Munn, Joy Speelman and Scott Speelman; a sister Dell Wessell; eight step children, Bud Montgomery, Jr. (Marilyn), Mary Sue Gambrell, Betty Rosen (Morris), Ce Ce Bielanski (Gordon), Meg Sponseller (Tom), Martha Montgomery, Matthew Montgomery, Angel Allen (Bryan) and twenty seven grandchildren as well as twenty five great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife Ruth Banthin; a brother, William Register and a step daughter, Ann Stafford. The relatives and friends of Robert E. Register, Jr. Are invited to attend his Mass ofChristian Burial at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 26, 2009 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be held privately.
