Robert Stevenson Opdyke

Robert Stevenson Opdyke, 71, of Hollywood, SC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

A Visitation will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at James A. McAlister funeral home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407.

Steve was born in Hanover, MA on December 2, 1951. He graduated from Hanover High School and joined the United States Army Reserve in 1969, serving in the 82nd Airborne division in Fort Bragg, NC. From there, Steve joined New England Tile Company where he and his brother Earl worked together as the 2nd generation in the family business, eventually assuming the role of President. After relocating to the Charleston area, he joined Melcer Tile Company as a regional sales representative prior to his retirement.

Steve & Terri Nobleman arrived and resided in Stono Ferry Plantations in 2017, where he loved playing golf, traveling up & down the coast, and engaging in the Charleston lifestyle. He also cherished forming new friendships, taking in the beautiful beaches of Edisto and Kiawah, and enjoying visits with his grandchildren Carson & Finley.

Over the years, he enjoyed affiliations with the Hyannis Yacht Club, Cape Cod Board of Baseball Umpires, was active as a Boy Scout leader and did some piloting. Most recently, he was elected as a member of the Stono Ferry Architectural Review board.

Steve is survived by his son, Kyle Opdyke of Santa Barbara, CA, his daughter, Erin Opdyke of Cape Cod, MA; partner Terri Nobleman of Hollywood, SC; his grandchildren, Carson and Finley Opdyke; his sisters, Lynne (Opdyke) Villarin of Spain and Penelope (Opdyke) Walsh of Sarasota, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl S. Opdyke, Jr and Jane A. Stevenson, and his brother, Earl S. Opdyke III.
