Robert L. Lanier

August 21, 1932 — February 2, 2018

Robert L. Lanier Jr., 85, of Charleston, SC, husband of Sarah 'Mickey' Lanier, died Friday, February 02, 2018.

He was born August 21, 1932, in Brownsville, TX, the son of the late Virginia Hamlinck and Robert L. Lanier, Sr. He graduated in 1950 from Landon High School in Jacksonville, FL, after which he received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. A Registered Professional Engineer, Robert worked in both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and eventually started his own engineering consulting firm in DeLand, Florida. A veteran of the United States Army, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, metal working, and a variety of other hobbies. After his 'retirement', he obtained a homebuilder's license and built several homes. Mr. and Mrs. Lanier traveled a great deal in recent years, including memorable trips to Europe, Egypt, China, Tibet, and South Africa. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years; three children: Douglas Lanier and wife Sue, David Lanier and wife Lilia, and Patti Pride and husband Alan; 3 Grandchildren: Bill Granfield, Christina and Danielle Lanier; 1 sister, Ellinor Rogero and husband Albert; and several nieces and nephews.
