Robert "Bob" Edward Flynn, 88, died February 7, 2018, at the Hospice Center of Charleston in Mount Pleasant, SC. The relatives and friends of Robert E. Flynn are warmly invited to attend his Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Center St., Folly Beach. The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass at Father Kelly Hall, 105 West Hudson, Folly Beach.
Bob was born May 20, 1929, in New Haven, CT, the youngest son of Thomas Flynn and Marie Gauglitz Flynn. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the American Legion. He graduated with a Master's Degree in English Literature from the University of Connecticut and went on to work as a Civil Servant in the Social Security Administration. After his retirement, he dedicated himself to voluntary work.
Bob had a great love for culture, especially literature and film. He also greatly enjoyed hiking, gardening, cooking and baking. His deep love of nature extended especially to birds and dogs.
Our dear Pops is survived by his two sons, David (with Annette) Flynn of Bray, Ireland, and Stephen Flynn of East Sussex, England, and by his two step daughters Deborah "Deb" Booker of Columbia, MI, and Andrea Walker Bolling of New Bern, NC.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother Thomas "Tommy" Flynn of Stamford, CT; by his first wife Ruth Bauer Flynn of Welwyn Garden City, England; by his second wife Barbara Bolling Flynn of New Bern, NC; and by his step daughter Brenda Harvey of Burnsville, NC.
