Rita Agnes O'Brien Rourk, 94, of Charleston, the widow of St. Clair Harley Rourk, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 26, 2011. She was born in Charleston, a daughter of William Richard O'Brien and Mary Rose Wetherhorn O'Brien on May 24, 1917. Rita attended the Convent School on Queen Street and was a graduate of Bishop England High School's Class of 1936. She retired from Piggly Wiggly after twenty five years of faithful service and was the Manager of the Greenbax Redemption Center. Rita was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was a volunteer with the Charleston County Voter Registration Board. She is survived by two daughters, Saundra Rourk Cash and Gail Rourk Emerson; six grandchildren, Diana, Beau, Daphne, Tyler, Marcia and Tanya as well as six great grandchildren, Skyler, Kamryn, Blaize, Cash, Jared and Laura. She was predeceased by a son, William Richard Rourk. The relatives and friends of Rita O'Brien Rourk are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 30, 2011, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rite of Committal will be held in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. A Vigil Service will begin at 6:00 PM and the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to either the Blessed Sacrament Church, Building Fund, 5 St. Teresa Drive Charleston, SC 29407 or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
