Rita Padgett Clark

Rita Maye Padgett Clark, 87, of Charleston, SC, beloved wife of the late Abe Joseph Clark, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Her Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday May 7, 2024, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

Rita was born at her family home, May 27, 1936, in Ehrhardt, SC. She was the daughter of the late Gerald and Lois Padgett and one of eight children. Rita graduated from Chicora High School and was a Kindergarten Assistant at Oakland Elementary School. She was also employed at Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company and H&R Block.

Rita was a lifelong member of Pinecrest Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports, going on trips with Abe and watching the Atlanta Braves.

Rita is survived by her two sons, Abe Joseph "Joey" Clark III (Angela) and Gary Alan Clark (Tracy); her sister, Sandra Schaffer and her brothers, Donald Padgett and Jimmy Padgett. She was blessed with five grandchildren: Larsen Spinelli, Kristin Cullen, Sara Beth Angel, Brooke Nix, and Nathan Clark as well as seven great-grandchildren.

The family appreciates the caregivers at The Oaks of Charleston and Agape Hospice. Rita will be dearly missed by family and friends.
