Charleston, SC - Mr. Richard James Magill, 84, husband of Shirley Elaine Phillips Magill, with whom he shared a very strong and very blessed marriage union, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, May 6, 2015. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Magill are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad Street, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will take place at a later date in Hilton Head, SC. The family will receive friends between 5:00 & 7:00 PM Monday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rosary will be recited at 6:45 PM. Richard James Magill was born in Lynn, MA, on September 27, 1930. He graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in Economics in 1952, and after serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he began a very long and successful career in financial management with General Electric in Schenectady, NY, where he raised his family. After retiring, he moved to Hilton Head, SC, and began a cleaning company, finally coming to settle in Charleston in 2005. Richard was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston. He is predeceased by his parents, James Magill and Helen Froberger, of Lynn, MA. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his brother, James Magill, Jr., of Williamsburg, VA, his four children, Richard, Karen, Michael, and Amy, his thirteen grandchildren: Ricky, Matthew, Janine, Kenny, Drayton, Savannah, Marielle, Daniel, Micah, Eva, Clare, Catherine, and Jesse, and one great-grandchild, Matteo. The family will deeply miss Richard, affectionately called "Speed", and will especially miss being "Speedy's Angels", assisting him and comforting him during his 14-year struggle with Alzheimer's.
