Richard H. Kiel

Richard Henry Kiel, 77, husband of Maria Botzis Kiel died January 21, 2013. Mr. Kiel was born on January 27, 1935, in Ft. Snelling, Minnesota, the son of Henry I. and Catherine Murphy Kiel. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and served for twenty years before retiring as a Captain. After his naval career he went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maria B. Kiel; his son, Henry Kiel, both of Charleston and his sister, Mary Ann Brouse, of Hartford CT. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Kiel are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for the former at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 24, 2013, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd. The Rite of Committal, at Bethany Cemetery, will be private. The family will receive friends this Wednesday evening between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway.
