Raymond F, Thompson entered into eternal rest on December 5, 2009. The beloved husband of Josephine Chiello Thompson for 53 years. The loving father of Antoinette (Clint) Milner, Raymond A. (Lana), Randal, and Maria (Randy) Lovdal, his loyal son-in-law, Randy Simonis and best friend Harry Sirigos. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jesse (Melissa), Jodi, Nicholas, Jonathan, Elizabeth and Anna; his sister Elizabeth (Harvey), Donald (Barbara), Dale (Marlene), Karen, Lynne, Sandra (Ron); special nephews Russell and Ray, brother-in-law to Peter Chiello, Philip (Millie) Chiello, Rose (Richard) Zilles; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray returned to SC in 1986. He volunteered at St. Francis Hospital where he became a Eucharistic Minister. He later worked through Blessed Sacrament, at Roper and the Chas. County Hospital. He worked in Eucharistic ministries for 19 years. In the last few years he worked with MUSC and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital. He was an Elk. He was the state chairman for the Elks National Veterans Service Commission of SC. By donations of SC Elk Lodges, he presented the VA Hospital with their first wheelchair van. He also was successful in obtaining two other wheelchair vans throughout SC. Ray was also a member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus P.N, Lynch, Charleston Rifle Club and OSIA. He was "Mr. Bud" to the people of Wal-Mart. He was a proud employee of 14 years. Through Wal-Mart's generosity, he was able to present donations to the VA Hospital and the Children's Miracle Network. Family and friends may pay their respects at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Wallenberg Blvd. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8:00p.m. A Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009. The Rite of Committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island. Memorials may be made to MUSCF-Hollings Cancer Center, HCC Office of Development, 86 Jonathan Lucas St.,MSC 955, Charleston, SC 29425, Blessed Sacrament Church, Building Fund, 5 St. Teresa Dr, Charleston, SC 29407 or St. Joseph Church, 1695 Wallenberg Blvd. Charleston, SC 29407.
