Ralph Lindsey Ogden

May 12, 1941 — October 1, 2012

Ralph Lindsey Ogden, 71, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Ralph was born on May 12, 1941, in Jesup, GA, the son of Audrey Poppell Ogden Cribbs, deceased, and Ralph Willard Ogden, deceased. He had two siblings, Carolyn Ogden Highsmith of Jesup, GA, deceased, and Sandy James Ogden of Mount Pleasant, SC. His half brother, Timothy Ogden, lives in Charlotte, NC. Ralph is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lyric Padovani Ogden, his son, Jason Christopher Ogden, and his daughter, Jennifer Ogden Neher. Jason and his wife, Harmony Miller Ogden, of Daniel Island, SC, are the parents of Ralph's two granddaughters, Sophia Grace Ogden and Audrey Lyric Ogden. Jennifer and her husband, John Townsend Neher, of Mount Pleasant, SC, are the parents of his two grandsons, Townsend Lee Neher and Grant Jackson Reading Neher. Ralph graduated from Wayne County High School in 1959. He attended the University of Georgia where he became a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan. He graduated in 1963 with a degree in Accounting. Ralph began his professional career with Georgia Power Co. in Atlanta, GA, where he met his future bride. Working during the day, Ralph also attended law school at night and received his Bachelor of Laws Degree from the Atlanta Law School in 1969. He was a member of the Georgia Bar Association for many years. Ralph and Lyric were married in Austell, GA, on December 12, 1970. In 1972, the young couple moved to Greenville, SC, when he took a position as Controller with Daniel Construction Company. Jason and Jennifer were born in Greenville in 1973 and 1976, respectively. In 1982, the family moved to Irvine, CA, when he was promoted into Daniel Construction's parent company, Fluor Corporation. In 1984, he accepted a position as Executive Vice President with Liberty Life Insurance Company in Greenville, SC, and was eventually promoted to President of Liberty Insurance Group. In Greenville, SC, Ralph volunteered his time holding positions with the United Way, the Urban League, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and Christ Church Episcopal School to name but a few. He also served on the Board of Directors at First Union Bank. In 1996, Ralph decided to resign from his position as President of Liberty Insurance Group. That same year he took the opportunity to work with his good friend, John Hoffman, at Right Source, Inc., holding the position of Chief Operating Officer until 1998. In 1998, he and Lyric moved to the Charleston area where they have lived until the present. Ralph's retirement was a busy one as he ran his own Real Estate Investment firm, spent time deep sea fishing, traveling, attending University of Georgia football games and devoting every spare moment to his friends and family, including his four grandchildren. With all of his life accomplishments, Ralph would like to be remembered as a loving husband to Lyric; a great father to his two children, Jason and Jennifer, and their spouses; a big brother to Carolyn and Sandy; and the best Granddad ever. He played a large role in many people's lives supporting and mentoring business associates, family, and friends and will leave a lasting impact on all of them. He was also a lifelong runner, participating in the Cooper River Bridge Run several times. His memorial service will be held at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 12 at 2 PM. The family will be receiving visitors at the church beginning at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hope House at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben St. Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 or to Piney Grove Cemetery Trust, PO Box 404, Odum, GA 31555.
