Ralph Odell Clary

Ralph Odell Clary, 94, of James Island, husband of Margie Willis Clary, entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2021. The relatives and friends of Ralph and Margie Clary are invited to attend his Graveside service 1:30 PM Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, James Island.

Ralph was born February 16, 1927 in Gaffney, SC, the son of William Edward Clary and Marie Sarratt Clary of Macedonia. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, and served as a military policeman in the US Army Air Force during World War II. In returning home from service, he enrolled in South Carolina First Technology School, ATS, Columbia, South Carolina, receiving an Associate's degree in Refrigeration Engineering. Making his home in Greenville, South Carolina, he worked at Ramseur and Company before joining J. Wynn and Company as Vice President. While working there he traveled the eastern states doing work for the Federal government.

In 1965, he and his family moved to Charleston where he was employed by the U.S. Government's General Service Administration at the Charleston Federal Building until retirement in 1989.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margie Willis Clary; a son, David Wayne (Cindy) of College Park, Ladson, SC; a daughter, Sheila Griffin (Grady) of Panama City Beach, FL; two Grandsons, Caleb Griffin (Robin), Panama City, FL, and Scott Clary (Tuesday), Charlotte, NC; one granddaughter, Jill Coggins (Joshua) of Hanahan, SC; three nieces: Judy Lemmon (Benny) and family of Greenville, SC, Sara Ann Gardner (Randy) and family, Mandy Holt (Justin) and family of Gaffney, SC; one niece-in-law, Lynn Clary of Gaffney. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers: James Edwards and Wofford Clary; one sister, Irene Harrington; one Nephew, Eddie Clary,

Ralph was a loyal member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church for fifty-five years, and a faithful member of the Senior Men's Sunday School. He served as an usher and greeter at the front doors of the church for twenty years. He was a life­time member of RSCS.

Ralph was known for his love of gardening, planting and growing flowers and vegetables. He was recognized for his green thumb in having yard flowers the year round. He planted a garden in 2020, but due to poor health he was unable to gather the harvest.
