Phyllis Mcgorty Shand

Phyllis McGorty Shand, age 76, passed away on May 15, 2018. She was born in Charleston, SC on November 24, 1941 to the late John and Margie McGorty. She was the oldest of three children. Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Sherie Shand McGahee of John’s Island, SC, Rachael Benton (Fred) of Ravenel, SC and Felicia Richardson of Atlanta, GA and her sons, Michael Shand (Gigi) of Houston, TX and Darren Shand (Lori) of Lynn Haven, FL. Her youngest son, Jason Shand and her second daughter, Lisa Shand predeceased her. She is also survived by her brother, John McGorty of New York, NY and her sister, Theresa Fell (George) of Greensboro, GA. Phyllis is also survived by eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
While raising her children, Phyllis volunteered many years with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Johns Island, SC. She was a leader for the Girl Scouts of America for twelve years. Phyllis retired from News America Marketing after twenty-eight years.
Phyllis Shand was a woman full of life who loved to share her sense of humor, her experiences, love of cooking and love of life with her family, friends, workers, and neighbors.
Throughout her life Phyllis touched so many lives, not only as a volunteer, mentor, worker, but also as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She was truly a person full of life and love, and she will be missed by so many.
