Philip George Smith, Jr.

LCDR Philip G. Smith, Jr. USN(Ret.) husband of Anna Clara Schweiger Smith, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Philip was born August 28, 1935, in the Village of Massena, New York, the eldest son of Philip G. and Teresa McCarthy Smith.

A veteran of the US Navy, Philip retired on 1 July 1979. A life-long fisherman, Philip was particularly taken with the pursuit of cold water trout. He was a lifetime member of Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers.

Philip is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anna Clara Schwegler Smith; daughters Delia Ann and Megan Teresa; sons Philip George and Timothy Matthias; granddaughter Norah Maeve West, daughter of Megan Smith and J. Michael West, and Connor McCallum and Matthias Lanford Smith, children of Timothy and Allison Lanford Smith. Also, he is survived by his brother, Bruce and his wife, Shirley and their three daughters, Leslie, Sheena and Allison and their children. Additionally, he is survived by the daughters of his late brother and sister-in-law, Heidi, Cece and Lisi.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal, with Military Honors, will take place 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Beaufort National Cemetery.
